Meet Sarah

Building a more supported beginning for Humboldt families.

Sarah Torres is the Founder and Lead Doula of Nueva Vida Doula. Since 2015, she has supported families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenthood with education, advocacy, and steady care. As a Certified Lactation Counselor, Childbirth Educator, Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, Child Passenger Safety Technician, and fluent Spanish speaker, Sarah brings a holistic and practical approach to every family she serves.

Why This Work Matters

Families deserve support that is steady, informed, and deeply human.

Pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenthood can be beautiful, emotional, uncertain, and transformative. Sarah became a doula because she believes families deserve patience, compassion, advocacy, and practical support during this transition.

Her goal is to help families feel less alone, more informed, and more connected to their own strength as they move through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, feeding, and early parenthood.

How Sarah Supports Families

Education, advocacy, reassurance, and hands-on care.

Sarah supports families with birth preparation, childbirth education, lactation guidance, emotional reassurance, comfort measures, advocacy, partner support, postpartum transition care, and practical decision-making support.

Her work blends professional training with warmth, intuition, and respect for each family’s values, culture, choices, and birth experience.

Founder Vision

The heart behind Nueva Vida Doula.

Sarah founded Nueva Vida Doula to create a place where families could feel supported before, during, and after birth. Her vision goes beyond a single appointment or a single birth experience.

She has helped shape a team-based care model that connects families with doulas, childbirth education, lactation support, postpartum care, baby bonding support, partner preparation, Spanish-language support, coverage guidance, and whole-family care.

Sarah has personally supported hundreds of births, while the Nueva Vida team has attended more than 1,300 births collectively. Her leadership helps carry that experience into a care model rooted in education, advocacy, reassurance, and community connection.

Families deserve to feel informed, respected, and cared for every step of the way.

Beyond Birth Work

Rooted in family, nature, learning, and a nurturing touch.

Outside of birth work, Sarah is a mother of three, an outdoor enthusiast, a gardener, and a family advocate. She finds peace in nature, time with loved ones, hiking through the woods, days by the river, and tending to her garden.

Sarah also loves horses and time spent with Elide and Bella. Her care for family, animals, and the natural world reflects the same patience, steadiness, and connection she brings into her doula work.

Her background in Political Science also shapes the way she thinks about advocacy, systems, access, and the importance of helping families understand and use their voices.
